PE Premium & Sport Premium

At Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, we provide high quality, fun and engaging P.E lessons to all children at the school. It is our intention to build a P.E curriculum that enables children to develop their knowledge and skills in a wide range of sporting activities, as well as developing the school’s values and transferable life skills such as teamwork, fairness and respect.

We aim to encourage children to try a range of sports and physical activities to promote a lifelong participation in sport. A varied curriculum is in place to support this, with activities including: dance, athletics, gymnastics, tag rugby, hockey, handball, basketball, netball, tennis and swimming.

In KS2, children learn how to play a range of sports across the academic year. As children progress through KS2, different sports will be adapted or introduced, based on the children’s age, to ensure progression. In EYFS and KS1, children focus mainly on multi-skills, to ensure that they learn the fundamentals of P.E ahead of progressing to learn how to play sports in KS2.

During lessons, children are taught about the benefits and importance of being physically active as part of a healthy lifestyle. To help support with this, we provide children with a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These include an extensive range of after-school sports clubs, sports fixture for a variety of different sports and sports assemblies where local clubs come in to advertise opportunities outside of school.

Schools are required to publish details of how they spend the Primary PE and Sport Premium, including any under-spend from 2019/2020, as well as on the impact it has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment.

Holy Cross Primary School encourages and supports the whole school community to travel more
actively and sustainably where possible.
