Charism

Unity

Charisms are gifts of grace, gifts of the Holy Spirit. So, an individual may have a charism, such as encouraging others or being artistic. Charisms are not “owned” by individuals, but are for the benefit and good of all, within the Church and for the wider world. Communities can also have charisms – an emphasis or way of life, which is a gift of grace.

At Holy Cross, our charism of ‘living in unity, as Jesus shows us’, reflects not only our gift of building a close-knit school community, but our school founders, the Sisters of Christ. The charism of the Sisters was to witness to Jesus Christ the source and maker of unity. The very name “Sisters of Christ” expressed the love that united them to Christ. So, the unity we seek to express flows from the love of Christ, who is our Light.

Our charism of unity, founded on the love of Christ, to be makers of communion, in such a way that upholds the dignity and uniqueness of each person, links closely to our Mission of being 'anchored in the love of Christ'.

Our charism also threads through strands of Catholic Social Teaching, in terms of respect for the life, dignity and uniqueness of the human person, and promoting the common good, by our life lived in communion.
