Governors

Governors are strategic leaders within schools and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education.

The role of the school governor is demanding but very rewarding, and is a great way to give back to your local community. Good schools need good governors.

Our Governing Body at Holy Cross Catholic Primary School is made up of a group of people who are dedicated and committed to do the best they can for the children who attend our school. We work alongside and support the headteacher and staff in all that they do. Regular training sessions are attended to ensure that we have the knowledge to do the best that we can for Holy Cross.

Governors are in school on a regular basis; we hold our meetings at various times of the day and evening. We meet with staff and talk to as many children as we can about their experiences in school and the how they have been learning.

The role of the school governor

Governing bodies have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and direction.
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Each individual governor is a member of the governing body and all decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body.
